Founded by Luis Solanas in 1990, La Viruta Tango is the tango school par excellence in Argentina. You can enter on Tuesdays and Saturdays with or without reservation and from 11:45 pm on Saturdays enjoy the best live orchestras.

LUIS SOLANAS

Luis Solanas is a tango dancer, choreographer and cultural producer.
He also has an extensive career as an actor since 1981. In film, TV, theater and advertising.
His latest works in cinema are: “La cordillera” (Dir. Santiago Mitre), “El elefante blanco” (Dir. Pablo Trapero), “La señal” (Dir. Ricardo Darín).
In 1989 he began working as a professional tango dancer in traditional tango houses in Buenos Aires.
As a dancer, actor and choreographer he worked in notable shows: “Por qué canto así” (Dir. Rodolfo Bebán), “Tanguera” (Dir. Pacheco), "Tango Varsoviano" (Dir. Alberto Felix Alberto), "Flores Negras" (Dir. Ana María Stekelman), "Minas fieles de gran corazón" (Dir. Susana Rinaldi), "El patio de la morocha" (Dir. C. Carella y D. Petronis), "Hombre de la esquina rosada" (Dir. Mónica Viñao), “Variete en el Colón” (Dir. G. Gandini), “Tangachas al cielo” (Dir. C. Hochman), “Lástima que sea una perdida” (Dir. Rubén Pires), “Metejón” (Dir. Luis Luque).
He toured internationally with the works “Tango Varsoviano” y “Hombre de la esquina rosada”. Likewise, he participated in the video clip of Patricia Sosa “Beso Mortal”, at the show of Melingo in the Regio theater, The "Otros Aires" concert in the Teatro NDAteneo, and as first dancer of Madonna for the movie “Evita” (Dir. Alan Parker).
In 2019 Luis Solanas was the cover of the tango magazine La Milonga, on the occasion of his work for so many years in promoting our culture.

TANGO TEACHERS

As a tango teacher, Luis Solanas taught classes and performed at prominent milongas in Alemania, Brasil, España, Francia, Holanda, Italia, Japón, México, Perú, Rusia, Senegal y Uruguay, as well as in the interior of Argentina.

In the Buenos Aires Tango Festival and World Cup 2017, 2018 y 2019 he was summoned as a jury in the qualifying and final rounds of Tango Pista. In the 2022 edition he taught tango improvisation classes with María José Iglesias.

FOUNDER OF LA VIRUTA

In September 1994, he opened La Viruta Tango. Luis Solanas created a free and creative teaching style, which attracted young audiences to the milonga. In a short time it became the largest tango and social dance school in the world. The proposal integrated new generations into the tango environment, creating a true hotbed of tango. The La Viruta school traveled to Paris to share its teaching method and performed shows at the Chaillot Theater. With his team of teachers he has also made trips to Mexico and Uruguay to transmit his educational principles in tango dance to other schools. La Viruta Tango has already celebrated 28 years since its creation and continues to be a reference in the world as a milonga and tango school.
